New Tilicho Lake Trail

December 2, 2024

A new trekking route to Tilicho Lake, known as the highest lake in the world at 4,919 meters above sea level, has recently been opened. This new trail starts from Thini in the Gharpojhong Rural Municipality of Mustang district, offering a different approach compared to the previous route that began in Chame, Manang.

The trail has been developed with support from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, with the local government investing around Rs 5 million and ACAP contributing an additional Rs 1 million. Trekkers can complete a round trip to Tilicho Lake in approximately two days, with a trek duration of about six hours from Jomsom, plus a two-hour drive.

While the new route promises scenic views—including Namakhu Lake, Nilgiri Icefall, Chema Tal, and Masokondo Pass—trekkers should be prepared to self-cater as there are currently no hotels or restaurants along the trail. Informative signboards have been installed to assist hikers along the way.
